Death Of The Mobile TweetDeck

If you use TweetDeck via your mobile device or through an app, take note: Twitter announced recently that they will no longer be developing and updating their TweetDeck mobile and computer apps using the API version 1.0 . In other words, use the web-based version or the latest and PC version or nothing at all.

It’s not about the 'Like' anymore

Facebook continues to change and evolve. In recent months we’ve heard an outcry from Brand Pages regarding the change in Facebook’s algorithm [Edgerank] and how content reaches out to ‘fans’ and people using the platform.

Some changes have escaped the eyes of many people in South Africa but we’re slowly seeing the results. One such change is the release of the ‘Global Brand Page’ in October.

What is the Global Brand Page?

Community; love, loss and letting go

It's better to have had community love and let go, then to never have had community love at all.

As a community manager, you know you’re doing something right when your community starts to grow organically and regulate itself - Its bliss; the sought after life where community managers only need to create gripping, informative and engaging content.

So what’s the hardest part of being a content and community manager? Letting go! Letting go of a community that you’ve spent an incredible amount of time cultivating and getting to know. A community that will either move to another agency or be taken in-house, as that’s seems to be the route social is going.

Pinning

Pinterest is the latest phenomenon to grab social media addicts. Its steadfast growth in popularity (and subsequently, subscribers) means that it’s currently a greater traffic driver than Google+, according to Mashable.

What is Pinterest?

Pinterest is the social networking site that allows you to share images that you find online, or users can upload images they capture IRL. It’s similar to bookmarking sites, such as Delicious, Digg and StumbleUpon. The one advantage of Pinterest is its community… rather, a better community.

SOPA and what it means to you

If you haven’t heard of SOPA by now, where have you been? SOPA, or the Stop Online Piracy Act, is a proposed bill that aims to crack down on copyright infringement by restricting access to sites that host or facilitate the trading of pirated content.

SOPA’s main target are international sites, such as torrent sites like The Pirate Bay, which are the go-to places for illegal downloads. Pirate Bay, among others, hosts their servers in Sweden and other European countries, which makes it difficult for US-based companies to take action against them.

Though content creators such as the music and film industry have battled piracy for years, with the infamous Napster sparking the great internet piracy debate, US companies could never take action against internationally hosted sites.
